Ambition in Life — A Song to Show the Spirit of Challenge to Children

I wonder what kind of adults our children will become.
I hope they grow up healthy and strong, just like their names suggest.
The day they first said “Papa” and “Mama,”
We will never forget.

What can I teach them?
Surely, just telling them isn’t enough.
That day we grew to hate learning because we were told, “Go study.”
We can’t forget that feeling.

So, we show them.
I bet our backs look big and strong to them.
That is the kind of couple we want to be.
That’s why we can do our best. Ambition in life.

The morning you stopped crying even when you fell.
The evening you opened the door with your small hands.
Everything is proof of your growth.
We are watching over you properly.

We may not be the ideal parents,
But we want to show you us taking on challenges.
It’s okay to get lost, it’s okay to worry.
We want to show you backs that keep moving forward, never stopping.

So, we dream too.
Dreaming of the future, just like our children.
To love this life even more,
We keep going today. Ambition in life.

No matter how small the step,
Because you are watching us.
“Being an adult looks like fun.”
We want you to say that from the bottom of your heart.

So, we smile, even after the tears.
Because these days will become our treasures.
Hand in hand with the one I love,
Let’s move forward. Ambition in life.

This is one of the very first songs I wrote.

After our second child was born, my wife decided she wanted to change jobs and work in a field where she could use her qualifications. She left her career as a bus driver and began visiting the employment office to find a new path.

With our second child starting nursery school, I felt anxiety about becoming a part-timer and worried that I might let myself get lazy in our daily life.

I want my children to say, “Papa is cool,” even when they grow up. At that time, I was waking up at 3:30 AM to study English and reading books voraciously to learn how to move my body better.

In the future, even if we face great obstacles, hesitation, or worries as a couple, I want to show our children that we continue to chase “something shining.” I wrote this song with the determination and hope that our children won’t become the kind who give up on their ideals before they even try, thinking “I can’t do it.”
